Almost a month after a 22-year-old pedestrian was knocked down by a speeding car while she was on her way to office, the woman succumbed to her injuries at a Vile Parle hospital on Tuesday. The MIDC cops are still looking for the driver who fled the spot without offering any help to the victim.
An officer from MIDC police station said the incident occurred on August 14 near Sai Baba temple on the C-Cross Road around 8.30am . The victim, Prachi Ghanekar, was walking towards her office with her friend Amisha Pansare.
It was here that a speeding car knocked them down from behind. While Pansare escaped with minor injuries to her hands, Ghanekar sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
“We suspect it to be a silver Honda City car. We are checking the footage recorded by the CCTV cameras on the entire stretch and seeking Pansare’s help as well. The accused will be nabbed for sure,” said a police officer.
Ghaneka died at Advanced Multi Specialty Hospital in Vile Parle (West). She was a resident of Shankarwadi in Jogeshwari (East). Senior inspector, Shailesh Pasalvar from MIDC police station confirmed the development.
The initial first information report (FIR) registered by Pansare after the mishap now includes fresh charges of causing death due to rash and negligent driving and escaping from the spot without rendering help to the victim, registered under sections 279 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code and 134A and B of the Motor Vehicles Act.
