A housewife visited a building at Mumbra in Thane on the pretext of buying an apartment there, but instead hurled her children from the 15th floor before jumping to death at 11 am on Sunday.
The victim, Shireen Khan, 27, allegedly killed herself over household issues. She went to Dosti Apartment at Shibli Nagar and told the watchman that she wanted to see sample flats as she intended to buy one ‘on the spot’. However, she first hurled her son, Tausif, 7, and then her daughter Amreen, 4, to death before committing suicide. Tausif survived, but sustained severe injuries to his back and head. He was admitted to JJ Hospital and is said to be critical.
The victim’s husband, Hanif, 28, works as an air conditioner repair man for a private company. Police said the family, who stayed at Kausa, had not been facing financial troubles.
“Shireen visited the sales office to enquire about flats in the building. However, she did not fill the form, claiming that she did not know English. She promised to return with her family,” said S Patil, inspector, Shildaighar police station.
“There are two towers at the spot where the incident took place. The construction of one has been completed while the second is still under construction. “She threw her children from the second tower. Tausif initially fell on metal sheet and then rolled on to the ground,” added Patil.
