A 21-year-old youth was arrested on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping and raping a three-year-old girl at an under construction site in Andheri (West) on Wednesday evening. He was traced and detained on the same night.
Police sources said the girl is now stable and out of danger while adding that, “She underwent a surgery in Cooper Hospital and is now stable but is being provided oxygen.”
According to DN Nagar police, the incident took place between 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm on Wednesday after three-year-old girl had accompanied her father, a labourer, who works at an under construction site in Bhardawadi area, to his workplace.
The accused, Pratap Sahu, 21, a carpenter, worked at the same under construction building and when no one was around he picked up the girl from groundfloor and took her all the way to the ninth floor of the building.
Sometime later, when the girl’s family frantically began looking for her, one of the labourers said he had last seen her with Sahu, who was taking her upstairs. They then went searching for her and found her on ninth floor. A police source confirmed that the girl had been stripped and had sustained injuries on her private parts. But Sahu had managed to escape.
The police were informed about the incident and an FIR was registered under Sections 363, 376 (2) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4 (penetrative sexual assault), 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harrasment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
Sahu was produced before a sessions’ court in Dindoshi on Thursday and remanded to police custody for further probe. The victim has been treated at the Cooper hospital.
Her medical examination is underway. Sahu will also be put through a medical test. The police are checking if he had a prior criminal record. They have taken his finger prints. A spot panchnama has been done. The police has collected clothes of both accused and victims, which will be sent to forensic lab.
