88-km water supply project in Maharashtra awarded to private firm
The 88-km-long water supply scheme will provide 403 million litres of water a day (MLD) to Mira-Bhayandar & Vasai-Virar along with few areas in Palghar district
With the civic polls in Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation slated to be held in August, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis-led Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority appointed M/s Larsen & Toubro Ltd. to develop the Surya Regional Bulk Water Supply Scheme.
The 88-km-long water supply scheme will provide 403 million litres of water a day (MLD) to Mira-Bhayandar & Vasai-Virar along with few areas in Palghar district.
The Executive Committee of the MMRDA, headed by chief secretary Sumit Mallick, approved the appointment of L&T to develop the 403 MLD Surya Regional Bulk Water Supply Scheme for design, build, maintain, operate and transfer basis.
“The western sub-region of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region has always faced acute water problems. The Surya Water Supply Scheme will certainly provide a lot of relief to the residents of Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporations”, said UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
