20-year-old college student, who was returning home, was allegedly molested by a 27-year-old autorickshaw driver near Thane station on Wednesday.

In the past one month, this is the third such incident.

The police have detained the driver, Sikandar Nisar Shaikh, who is a resident of Thane.

According the police, the woman was heading towards Malhar Talkies near Thane station to hire an autorickshaw. While crossing Alok Hotel, Shaikh winked at her, which led to a heated argument between them.

“After Shaikh winked at her, she questioned him, but he argued back. She slapped him — an incident which was witnessed by other auto drivers. Upset by the insult, Shaikh abused her and twisted her hand,”said an officer from Thane Nagar police station.

Shaikh is suspected to be a history-sheeter.

The incident has brought back haunting memories of last month’s molestation in which a 23-year-old dietician was allegedly abused by two men in an autorickshaw in Thane. She was pushed off the running vehicle, and suffered injuries on her face and body. She was sharing the auto with the accused.
