The BJP is being criticised on social media after BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kakade organised his daughter’s wedding ceremony at Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex in Pune on Sunday. This happened after state education minister Vinod Tawde announced in the budget session of the Assembly that sports complexes would not be used for anything other than sports events.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, state BJP president Raosaheb Danve,Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and other prominent leaders of the party attended the ceremony. BJP drew people’s ire on social media, particularly WhatsApp.
Kakade, who played a significant role in BJP’s victory in Pune civic elections, got his daughter Komal married to Rohan, son of state cooperation minister Subhash Deshmukh, at a grand ceremony at the sports complex on Sunday.
After Tawde’s announcement, Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had also asked party workers to not behave like Congress-NCP leaders and not misuse their power at party’s Pimpri-Chinchwad session.
Despite that, a massive pandal was erected at the complex and police force was deployed as many dignitaries had come to attend the wedding.
A source said Kakade had invited around 25,000 guests and that led to traffic congestion in areas around the complex throughout the day.
The sports complex was divided to create a special section for the VVIPs.
Kakade had also announced that he had donated Rs1 crore for disadvantaged kids’ education, particularly for those from drought-affected areas.
BJP sources said Deshmukh will host a wedding reception in Solapur, his home district.
