BJP’s Shaina NC registers case against abuse on Facebook
Shaina NC, the BJP spokesperson in Mumbai, filed a complaint against Shaikh Akmal Azmi who allegedly posted abusive comments against her on the social networking site.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) spokesperson, Shaina NC, on Saturday filed a case of defamation against Shaikh Akmal Azmi for abusing her on Facebook.
Shaina, in a statement to the police, said that she had given an interview to a television news channel on April 18, a link to which she posted on Facebook. On Saturday morning, Shaina’s personal secretary, Sagarika Shinde, informed her that Sheikh had abused her in the comments section of the post.
An officer from Malabar Hill police station said, “After Shaina posted the link, Shaikh abused her in a comment on Friday and after it was brought to her notice by her secretary, she came to the police station and registered a case.”
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Shaina NC said, “I think this is just disgusting that people have this kind of mindset. We went through his Facebook profile and he has posted about Asaduddin Owaisi and AIMIM all over his page. In that case, I would like to ask Owaisi if he encourages this behaviour where woman are so scared to come out in the open and register a complaint.”
Confirming the news, deputy commissioner of police, Dyaneshwar Chanvan, said, “We have registered a case and are investigating it very thoroughly.”
The case has been registered under sections 500 (punishment for defamation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections under the Information Technology Act 2000.
