Neil, son of BJP MP Kirit Somaiya, Akash, the son of sitting BJP MLA Raj Purohit, Samadhan and the son of Shiv Sena MLA Sada emerged victorious in the polls, though many other relatives of political heavyweights were not so lucky.

Sena MP Rahul Shewale’s wife Kamini, NCP leader Nawab Malik’s daughter Sana, Tejaswini, wife of sitting Sena corporator, Vinod, sitting corporator and brother of BJP’s city chief Ashish Shelar lost their battles.

Leaders from all parties batted for their sons, daughters and wives and relatives to get the ticket. Some of them succeeded in riding the tide of rebellion, anti-incumbency while some could not.

Housing minister Prakash Mehta wanted to field his son from Ghatkopar, while Somaiya was considering candidature for his wife, Medha, from ward no. 191 in Dadar.

Sensing opposition from within the party, both dropped the idea.

Among other relatives of heavyweights to lose include R Muruganatham Ramaiah, brother of BJP MLA Tamil Selvan. Ramaiah lost to Congressman Ravi Raja from ward no. 176.

Though Tejaswini Ambole’s defeat does not come as surprise at she defected to BJP in a Sena bastion, Kamini Shewale’s defeat was a big blow for Sena too. BJP’s Anita Panchal, who is the wife of sitting Sena corporator (jumped ship to BJP ahead of the polls) defeated Kamini from the ward, spanning parts of Govandi,Deonar.

Janak Sanghvi, BJP’s senior corporator, who defected to Congress after he was asked to make way for Akash Purohit lost to Akash from ward no. 221. Former Congress MLA and corporator Rajhans Singh’s son Nitesh lost from ward no. 168 in spanning over Kurla, Kamani.

Pranav Lande, son of MNS corporator Dilip Lande lost from ward no 162, though his father won from ward no. 163.
