The mayoral election will be held in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation at 12 pm on Wednesday. The special general body meeting of 227 newly-elected corporators will elect mayor by show of hands. The mayor’s or Mumbai’s first citizen’s tenure is for two and a half years. Shiv Sena candidate Vishwanath Mahadeshwar , who is supported by BJP, is a three-time corporator from Santacruz and college principal. Hemangi Worlikar is Sena’s deputy mayor candidate. However, for Vishwanath Mahadeshwar the ride from nomination to mayor election date has not been smooth. He has been alleged to have grabbed a flat meant for BMC employees and have obtained salary from government-aided college during elections. While the Sena has denied such allegations, both the cases are in court. Sena has planned a victory march in an open bus from BMC headquarters to Hutatama Chowk after the mayor elections.
