Former media baron Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani both were unhappy with the relationship between Peter’s son Rahul and Indrani’s daughter Sheena Bora, and that’s why they conspired to kill Sheena, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has told the Bombay high court.
In an affidavit filed in reply to Peter’s bail plea, the CBI has stated that Rahul had, after he apprehended a threat to Sheena’s life, recorded calls made to and received from Peter and Indrani and the call details reveal that Peter was equally unhappy with the relationship between his son and Sheena, as was Indrani.
The affidavit also cites instances of how Peter tried to mislead Rahul after Sheena went missing and kept telling him that she was safe.
It adds that on number of occasions Indrani called Peter and spoke to him for long durations immediately after she spoke to Sheena. It further said that Peter was not only in touch with Indrani but also with the other accused on the day Sheena was killed.
The CBI has also opposed Peter’s bail plea on the ground that the sessions court has issued Letters of Requests to courts in Hong Kong, England and Singapore for carrying out further investigation in those countries, and Peter being an influential person may hamper the investigation there and also try to lure witnesses.
On April 24, 2012, Peter Mukerjea’s wife Indrani, Khanna and Rai had allegedly strangulated Sheena and later disposed her body in a forest in Gagode village of Raigad district, according to the Khar police. The murder came to light after the arrest of driver Rai by Khar police officers in an arms act case. Indrani was arrested on August 25 last year in the murder case. Later, the CBI also arrested Peter in the case.
