More than a week after Salman Khan’s bodyguard, Gurmeet Singh aka Shera, was booked for assault, CCTV footage from the area has led the DN Nagar police to conclude that the entire story was fabricated by the complainant, Athar Gulam Ansari, and his friends.

A police officer, not wishing to be named, told HT their investigations found Ansari and a his friends, Javed, Valentine alias Valy and a serving Mumbai police encounter specialist were at party in a Versova restaurant on October 25. The inspector knew Shera and invited him. He introduced Shera to Valentine and the others. During the course of the evening, one of them mentioned one Ajay Bhai, and this angered Shera as the two had a past rivalry. Shera started saying things about Ajay, when Valy dared him to do so in front of Ajay. Valy called Ajay’s number and gave the phone to Shera; the two men had a heated argument.

The inspector then got the men to leave the restaurant, but Valy and the others decided to follow Shera. They spotted his car at the Indian Oil junction, trailed him, overtook his car and blocked his way.

Valy and his friends got off the car, but Shera did not step out.

When things started getting out of hand, the driver of the car blocking Shera’s vehicle moved out of the way and Shera’s driver sped off. Ansari clung to the car door, because of which he fractured his collar bone. “The CCTV footage clearly showed them in the car. We will take action against the complainant and his friends,” said an officer. The complainant had alleged that after an argument, Shera pulled a pistol and hit him with its butt, fracturing his collar bone. Ansari also said Shera’s bodyguard assaulted Ansari’s friends.
