Central Railway earns ₹20.74 crore from ticketless travellers in Mumbai
Mumbai city news: According to the CR, a total of 3.66 lakh cases of ticketless or irregular travel and unbooked luggage were detected last month.
The Central Railway (CR) earned Rs20.74 crore by fining ticketless travellers in the month May. The zonal railway claimed that the earning is 83.55% higher as compared to same month last year.
According to the CR, a total of 3.66 lakh cases of ticketless or irregular travel and unbooked luggage were detected last month, and an amount of Rs20.74 crore was realised through the fine.
In May 2016, the number was ticketless travellers and unbooked luggage was 2.22 lakh, and an amount of Rs11.30 Crores was realised through it.
The CR spokesperson said that the railway has been conducting intensive campaigns against ticketless and irregular travellers. “In its endeavour to provide better services to its bonafide customers and also to curb ticketless travel, CR regularly takes innovative steps,” said CR spokesperson.
According to CR officials, senior railway officers closely monitor the revenue loss due to ticketless travel, and other such irregularities.
The CR has also appealed to passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets.
