Chhota Rajan aide’s police custody extended till Oct 26
Rao was arrested for allegedly demanding Rs50 lakh from the complainant, who is a consultant of a Slum Rehabilitation Authority project in Antop Hill
The Esplanade court extended the police custody of underworld don Chhota Rajan’s aide, Ravi Mallesh Bora aka DK Rao, and real estate agent Shankar Bhojapa Yerolla in an alleged extortion case. Rao, who was arrested on October 11, will now be in police custody till October 26.
According to the crime branch, Rao has refused to cooperate and a verification of his bank transactions and other assets, including benami properties, is underway. The remand report states that Rao had been involved in several extortion cases across the city, but the police are yet to acquire details of his victims.
Rao was arrested for allegedly demanding Rs50 lakh from the complainant, who is a consultant of a SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority) project in Antop Hill. The complainant, who was approached by Rao for redevelopment rights, claims he was promised Rs2 crore and two flats for getting the project cleared, which he did not receive. Instead, Rao threatened and demanded Rs50 lakh.
Rao also demanded Rs50 crore from the developers, of which Rs40 crore and Rs10 crore would be split between the chief promoter and his gang, respectively.
During Rao’s questioning on October 16, Yerolla – a resident of Dharavi and a real estate agent – was revealed to be the chief promoter of the project. Subsequently, Yerolla was arrested. The police intend to record Rajan’s statement in order to verify the allegation and to corroborate the links between Rao and others involved.
