Commercial 4-wheelers will have to install speed governors by October 31
MUMBAI CITY NEWS: This came as a relief to thousands of drivers, who were unable to install speed governors as they were not available in the market.
In relief to taxi and tempo drivers, the transport authorities gave more time to them to install speed governors that limits the speed of vehicles to 80kmph.
Earlier, the state had asked drivers to get the device fitted between May 31, 2017 and April 30, 2018. However, they reworked the time period from July 1 to October 31, 2017.
The directives came from the transport commissioner who asked all regional transport offices (RTO) to ensure that all commercial four-wheelers be fitted with speed governors before October 31, 2017. The RTOs were also directed that fitness certificates of all taxis be renewed without insisting on speed governors till June end.
This came as a relief to thousands of drivers, who were unable to install speed governors as they were not available in the market. According a source , over 4,000 black and yellow cabs were waiting to renew their fitness certificates since the past two weeks.
