The Vasai Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested four persons accused of murdering a man in Virar on Sunday. One of the accused is still at large.
On Saturday, the Virar GRP found a dead body of a man, around 30 years of age, and sent it to a Virar primary health centre for post mortem. Doctors confirmed death by strangulation.
Upon investigation, the police found that the victim and two of the accused worked for a wafer company. The victim had parted ways with them. One of the accused is the victim’s cousin. The two murdered him because he had allegedly retained their customers, which affected the business of the two accused.
The GRP zeroed on the victim’s cousin and his 4 friends based on initial clues.
“They used to work together and the victim had started working alone in search of good salary,” said GRP DCP Deepak Deoraj. He further added that victim, identified as Nalasopara resident Pawankumar Pandey, 28, had allegedly taken over the customers of his cousin, Mahendra Pandey (22) also a Nalasopara resident. Wanting revenge, Mahendra killed him. The incident took place at Mahendra’s shop in Virar west on Saturday when all had assembled for a drinking binge. Ahendra, with four others, attacked Pawankumar and killed him and dumped his body near the railway yard at Virar. They scattered his belongings around him to make it look like a train accident.
The four accused — Mahendra Pandey, Rajesh Chavan (39), Anupam Mishra (22) and Ravi Patwa (18) will be produced in Vasai court on Mondai.
