Former chief minister Ashok Chavan has asked the BJP to take action against Dilip Kamble, its minister, over his remark that journalists should be thrashed.

At an event in Hingoli, Dilip Kamble, minister of state for social justice, had said, “Journalists write anything for money and they should be beaten up with shoes.”

Chavan said, “Democracy has given us the right to question the government and its decisions. However, BJP is trying to quieten those who speak against them. Is this what the BJP is teaching its minister in state and the Centre?” Congress sought Kamble’s dismissal from the state ministry.

Chavan added, “This is the true colour of the party, which calls itself the ‘party with the difference’.”
