The Shivaji Nagar police arrested a 23-year-old drug addict for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl from the same neighbourhood on Thursday. Officials said that the accused targeted the girl a day ago by luring her to his residence.
On Wednesday night, Sajeed Khan spotted the girl playing outside. He spoke to her and lured her to the mezzanine floor of his residence when nobody was around. After sexually assaulting the girl, he left her at the spot where he had met her.
The girl then told her mother about the incident following which a complaint was lodged at the Shivaji Nagar police station. Khan was arrested and was booked for rape and targeting a juvenile as per provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
“Khan is unemployed and a drug addict. He was produced in a local court, which remanded him in five days police custody,” said an officer of Shivaji Nagar police station.
The police said that incidents of minor girls being sexually assaulted in Shivaji Nagar area are on the rise. They plan to conduct awareness sessions for parents and underage girls in the area’s slum pockets.
