Mumbai

Chief minister on Monday night posted a list of beneficiaries whose loans will be waived-off. However, the list includes 694 farmers from Mumbai city and 119 farmers from Mumbai suburb. Meanwhile, 4,121 candidates across 26 states took the online exam for Fadnavis’ fellowship this year. After the central railway changed the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the western railway (WR) authorities have renamed Elphinstone Road station as Prabhadevi. Taking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Digital India’ campaign forward, the Ministry of Railways has asked food and book stall vendors at railway stations to equip themselves with digital payment wallet Paytm. Also, a 24-year-old man, Paramjeet Kohli, died after jumping off Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli sea link at 3am on Sunday.

Here are today’s top five picks:

1. 813 farmers in Mumbai? Yes, says CM’s loan waiver list

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday late night announced that 36.10 lakh farmers in the state would get debts completely cleared thanks to his government’s Rs34,000-crore loan waiver scheme. The district-wise list of beneficiaries also tweeted by Fadnavis, however, is now attracting attention for all the wrong reasons.

2. 4,121 youngsters from 26 states make a bid for Maharashtra CM Fadnavis’ fellowship this year

When Rishad Surti, a chartered accountancy aspirant, applied for Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ Fellowship programme in 2015, little did he know that one year of work experience with the Maharashtra government would lead to a career in the development sector. Surti, a consultant with United Nations Development Programme is keen on getting the CA degree, but these skills will now be put to use as he negotiates public-private-partnership projects in social and development projects.

3. Western railway renames Elphinstone Road station as Prabhadevi

After the central railway changed the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the western railway (WR) authorities have renamed Elphinstone Road station as Prabhadevi. Prabhadevi is a local deity, whose temple is located in the vicinity of the railway station. With the name change, the WR revised Elphinstone Road’s station code to PBHD and numeric code to 08127027.

4. Mumbai man ‘jumps’ off Bandra-Worli sea link after ex-girlfriend gets engaged to another man

A 24-year-old man, Paramjeet Kohli, died after jumping off Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli sea link at 3am on Sunday. According to Khar police, Kohli told his friends, with whom he spent the entire evening drinking, that he was depressed after his ex-girlfriend got engaged to another man. As Kohli didn’t return home, his father Jaspal approached the police.

5. No cash? No problem: Food, book stall vendors at Mumbai railway stations to get Paytm

Taking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Digital India’ campaign forward, the Ministry of Railways, after announcing the continuation of 0.5 percent discount on digital payment of tickets, has now asked food and book stall vendors at railway stations to equip themselves with digital payment wallet Paytm. Vendors at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Kurla, and Thane on the Central Railway and Churchgate, Borivali, Mahalaxmi and Elphinstone stations on the Western Railway, have been asked to provide Paytm facilities at their stalls.
