A 25-year-old fitness trainer was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his neighbour’s six-year-old daughter at a co-operative housing society in a posh locality in Mumbai’s western suburbs.
According to the local police, the sexual assault happened at the residence of the accused on October 14 between 4pm and 4.20 pm.
The girl’s mother lodged the complaint. According to the police, the mother said she was at home when the incident took place. Her daughter was playing with another boy when the trainer asked the girl to come to his house. The mother allowed her to go as she knew the accused quite well and did not expect him to cause any harm to her child.
However, the girl about 20 minutes later returned home and looked very scared, said her mother in the complaint.
“My daughter told me that the accused stripped her and forced her to have sex with him. He also removed his clothes and started kissing my daughter. After hearing all these things, I was shell-shocked. I had no idea what to do,” the woman said.
Sometime later, the accused’s fiancée and his mother returned home.
The woman days later consulted a friend who is a lawyer and finally approached the local police on October 25.
An FIR has been registered under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment of the child) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
A police officer said, “He was arrested soon after the FIR was lodged. He was produced before a sessions court and remanded in police custody for further probe. We have subjected the girl to a medical test and will also send him for a medical test.”
