The Malwani police arrested a man on charges of attempt to murder after he attacked a political party worker with a knife in Malwani in Malad (West) around 12.35 pm on Thursday. The police are on the lookout for three more assailants.

According to the police, the victim, Tahir Khan, was walking with his brother Iqbal, and a friend when one of accused, Ajju, brandished a knife at Iqbal. Ajju abused Khan and was soon joined by Hanif Kadri, Wasim Kadri and Nadim Kadri.

Khan said the men were armed with an iron rod, a sharp weapon and chilli powder. They threw chilli powder at him and assaulted him. One of them attacked him with the weapon. He sustained head injuries. The accused also beat up Iqbal and his friend. They then fled.

Khan was rushed to a nearby hospital in Charkop where he is currently recuperating.

“The accused had a personal dispute with the victims, which led to the assault. We are recording their statements to ascertain the cause of the attack,” said an officer.

Ajju was arrested and a case of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation was registered against all the accused.
