While the Sheena Bora murder case moved forward with key witness Shyamwar Rai positively identifying his former bosses, Mumbai police were unable to verify that the Blue Whale Challenge was behind a 14-year-old boy’s suicide — a theory floated by his friends.

1. Sheena Bora case: Driver identifies Indrani, Peter and Sanjeev in court

Shyamwar Rai, a key witness and approver in the Sheena Bora murder case, on Tuesday was asked by the special CBI court to identify his former bosses. Rai hesitated and looked around at first, then pointed at Indrani, Peter Mukerjea and also Sanjeev Khanna.

2. Maharashtra schools to conduct competency tests for Classes 1-8 to assess students’ basic skills

Maharashtra schools will now have to conduct competency tests to assess basic skills of students in classes 1 to 8 on August 16, 18, 22 and 23 from 11 to 1 pm. The state government has changed the exam schedule today to suit schools running in shifts.

A sessions court in Mumbai convicted 15 Somali pirates to seven years in jail in connection with a 2011 case. The pirates had taken 22 people aboard a commercial ship from Thailand hostage. They have been found guilty of attempt to murder and kidnapping.

4. Cops find no evidence to support Blue Whale challenge theory floated by Mumbai boy’s friends

The police team, which is probing the suicide of the 14-year-old boy from Andheri (East), have not been able to find any evidence of the game being the reason behind the suicide. They have sent his mobile phone to the state forensic science laboratory (FSL) to find out if he had deleted anything from the phone. The theory of him taking the Blue Whale challenge was floated by his school friends.
