A month after an advocate filed a complaint against actor Kamaal R Khan for a lewd tweet against an actress-model, the police has booked the ‘Deshdrohi’ actor on charges of alleged sexual harassment.
In his complaint to the police, advocate Rizwan Siddiqui said on June 29 Khan tweeted a lewd comment and posted an obscene picture of the actress-model. He approached the police on the same day and filed the complaint.
The self-proclaimed film critic, also known as KRK, has often been lampooned by netizens for his online oddities. The latest: “Tell me meaning of #MohenjoDaro n win Rs5,000 for right answer.”
He had also sparred with comedian Kapil Sharma and allegedly.
In the FIR, Siddiqui stated Khan has targeted various actresses — including Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Bipasha Bapu, Lisa Haydon, Sunny Leone and six others —between June 2012 and February this year.
Siddiqui told officials that the model had not approached him and he had filed the case on his own accord, sources said.
“I cannot tolerate such an act against women. His Twitter account should be deactivated. The FIR took a little while as the police officers did not know the criminal law can be set into motion by any person. The FIR was filed to protect the larger interest of society, especially women associated with the film industry, who were seen as soft targets by Khan,” said Siddiqui.
The police have booked Khan for sexual harassment, voyeurism and stalking along with criminal intimidation under sections of Indian Penal Code.
