The court has granted the state a fortnight to file the report about the prevailing conditions in JJ Hospital, BJ Medical College in June, and government medical colleges at Miraj in Sagli district and at Ambejogai in Beed district.
The Bombay high court on Wednesday directed the Maharashtra government to file a report on what it proposes to do for the improvement of the deplorable working and living conditions of resident doctors in four hospitals.
The court has granted the state a fortnight to file the report about the prevailing conditions in JJ Hospital, BJ Medical College in June, and government medical colleges at Miraj in Sagli district and at Ambejogai in Beed district.
The court was hearing a PIL by RTI activist Afak Mandviya, who said repeated strikes by resident doctors were harming thousands of poor patients across the state. He sought action against the doctors.
Meanwhile, the state has decided to deploy 1,100 armed guards of the Maharashtra State Security Corporation for the protection of doctors at government and civic hospitals across Maharashtra. The first batch of 500 guards will be posted across Mumbai hospitals by April 5, and the remaining will be guarding the hospitals in the rest of Maharashtra by April 31.
