ICSE, ISC results: Many Mumbai schools join 90% club this year
Mumbai city news: Mumbai schools and students said they were surprised with the generous marking in these subjects. English and Hindi pulled down scores
Monday's ICSE and ISC results were unprecedented, with students scoring perfect 100s in mathematics, economics, and computer science.
Mumbai schools and students said they were surprised with the generous marking in these subjects. English and Hindi pulled down scores. Vedant Podar, an ISC Maharashtra topper, scored 100 in commerce, economics and accounts, but was five marks short in English. “I was expecting better in English as the exam went well,” said Podar, who scored 98.75%. At Bombay Scottish School, Powai, 45% students scored above 90%, and 16.17% above 95%. “This is due to special efforts such as practice tests and support to students,” said Sunita George, principal of the school.
Principal Chandrakanta Pathak of HVB Global Academy, Marine Lines, said English pulled down scores in ICSE. “Many scored cent percent in maths, computer, and 98 in social studies, usually considered tough,” said Pathak. But principals of CBSE schools, whose Class 12 results were announced on Sunday, said many scoring 100s showed inflation. “CBSE took measures not to inflate marks, but if other boards don’t, it’s unfair to students,” said Avnita Bir, principal, RN Podar School.
