The Western Railway has announced a 12-hour mega block on Sunday for work to be carried out on the extension of the line till Goregaon from Andheri.
The block will begin from Sunday midnight on north-bound slow line between Andheri and Goregaon stations, according to a WR release. Slow trains on the line will be diverted on the north-bound fast line.
Passengers may face trouble as some trains will be cancelled and most others will be running late. The railway has also decided that fast trains will halt at Jogeshwari station that day. Fifteen-car locals have been exempted from the rule.
Ravindra Bhakar, chief public relations officer of WR, said that a portion of the existing slow line platform will be demolished. Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation has also planned a few more blocks to extend the Harbour line till Goregoan station.
“There will be series of mega blocks to extend the Harbour line till Goregaon. The12-hour block on Sunday will be the longest mega block,” said Bhakar.
In Tuesday’s meeting with the state government, railway minister Suresh Prabhu has set a December 2017 deadline for commissioning of the railway line between Andheri and Goregoan.
