The jogging track at the Ghosale Lake is set to get a major makeover. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has begun work on renovating the Rs49-lakh jogging track project from Wednesday.
Sandeep Malvi, public relations officer of TMC, said, “The jogging track, which is 800 metres long, has been in a dilapidated condition for some time.”
A senior citizen said, “Hundreds of senior citizens walk on this track every morning and evening. However, as it condition is dilapidated, walking on it poses a major risk to senior citizens.”
Malvi said, “Apart from repairing this track, the repair and painting works on the safety wall will also be initiated. Attractive LED lights will also be installed along the periphery of this lake.”
New dustbins will also be put up on the premises.
“The civic chief has also planned to install a musical fountain, open gym and washrooms for men and women,” added Malvi.
In 2011, the TMC spent Rs1.5 crore on the beautification of this lake. A jogging track and safety wall was built and a solar lighting system was installed as part of the beautification plan. The lake is surrounded by many residential societies.
