A joyride for four drunk men took a tragic turn on Monday as their speeding car crashed into a divider at Santacruz (West) killing one of them. The four friends had come together to celebrate Holi.
They were travelling in a WagonR from Juhu chowpatty towards Andheri.
“The car was speeding and went out of control. It crashed into the divider on SV road and overturned,” said an officer from Santacruz police station.
One of them, Vijay Jadhav, 48, a peon, who was sitting next to the driver, died of internal head injuries.
“He was rushed to Cooper hospital, where he was declared dead on admission,” said the officer.
Jadhav is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
Jadhav’s friend Vishal Shirodkar, 24, who was driving the car, was apparently drunk, said police.
He was arrested and sent for a medical test.
He was booked under sections 279 (rash driving), 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicle Act. He was granted bail.
