Karan Johar’s twins, Yash and Roohi, were discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. Doctors said both the babies had gained weight and were healthier.
Dr Bhupendra Avasthi from Surya Hospital, where the children were kept in a neo-natal intensive care unit, said because they were premature, Yash and Roohi weighed less than 1.5kg each at birth. “Being born in the 29th week, the babies were very small and weak. However, post treatment, they have gained sufficient weight,” he said.
Babies born before the 37th week of gestation are called premature, and are relatively underdeveloped with smaller organs when compared to normal babies. Preemies, as they are known, are also prone to infections and need round the clock check-up.
Doctors also said that Karan frequently visited the babies at the hospital. “He got emotional every time he saw them. He is a very humble and loving person,” Dr Avasthi added.
Paparazzis had caught Alia Bhatt visiting Surya Hospital to see Karan Johar’s surrogate twins on the night of March 27. Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Ayaan Mukherji and Ranbir Kapoor have all visited the twins.
The filmmaker had become a single father of twins - a baby boy and girl - who were born through surrogacy on March 5. Johar later had said he was “enormously blessed” to be a parent. “I am ecstatic to share with you all the two most wonderful additions to my life, my children and lifelines; Roohi and Yash. I feel enormously blessed to be a parent to these pieces of my heart who were welcomed into this world with the help of the marvels of medical science,” Johar said in a statement.
