A 34-year-old driver was stabbed to death after he tried to stop a fight in Bandra on Thursday night.

Salim Shaikh saw the accused, identified as Jabbar, holding a knife and chasing three young men near Kherwadi around 7.30pm on Thursday. The police said Jabbar stabbed Shaikh when he tried to stop him. Jabbar was arrested early on Friday.

An initial probe showed two brothers, Altaf Shaikh, and Razzak were squabbling over the latter’s hookah habit while they were having ice cream in front of Amey dairy in Sant Nyaneshwar Nagar.

As the argument intensified, Altaf hit his brother on the back of head. At this time, Razzak’s friend Jabbar intervened, picked up a knife and attacked Altaf and another friend. They tried to run away, but Jabbar chased them.

The police said Salim was not a part of the fight, but tried to stop Jabbar when he saw him chasing the men with a knife.

The weapon is yet to be recovered. Jabbar was booked for murder and will be produced before a magistrate’s court on Friday.
