A 33-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing his wife at their residence in Gazdarban in Santacruz (West) on Tuesday around 7.30 pm.
The Santa Cruz police said the accused, Santosh Ambavale, 33, and his wife Sushma, 29 had been married for nearly a decade but were childless. Santosh used to do odd jobs and worked at a housekeeping service agency. Sushma was a domestic help. Santosh was an alcoholic, said the police.
The couple fought as Santosh spent Rs 2,500 of their savings. Enraged, Santosh stabbed Sushma in the stomach. She was taken to Cooper Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries that night. The police were alerted and Santosh was arrested.
Shantanu Pawar , senior police inspector, Santacruz police station, said they booked the accused under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before a magistrate’s court and remanded to police custody till October 17.
