The DN Nagar police on Thursday arrested a 75-year-old woman’s son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter for allegedly physically and mentally torturing her. In a video submitted to the police, the son can be seen by trying to strangle his mother and tying her legs to a fan with a saree.
According to the FIR, the complainant is social worker Sundari Thakur of Nari Samman Sanghathan (NSS, Women Respect Foundation) based in Versova, who received the video from a Versova resident. In the video, the accused, Surendra Vaid, can be seen torturing his mother Mayadevi. His wife Babita is seen helping him while the daughter is allegedly recording the clip. Mayadevi was into sanitary work and all her family members too are in the same profession. They are residents of a building in Shitladevi Sahakari society on the new Andheri link road.
Thakur has stated in the FIR, “A person is trying to strangle her and she is struggling to get him off her. To ensure she does not escape, a woman is holding her legs tightly and another woman was shooting a video on her phone. The act was inhumane and extremely provocative. In another video, the old woman’s legs were tied to a fan with a saree. The man is then seen catching her legs and spinning her on the floor. I was extremely shocked by watching the video. ”
