Steer clear of south Mumbai today as traffic congestion has been reported from roads leading to the island city owing to the Maratha Kranti Morcha. The cascading effect was also felt in several other areas during the morning peak hour, traffic division officials said.

The Thane toll booth witnessed traffic snarls as several vehicles of the rally participants entered Mumbai.

With Babasaheb Ambedkar Road is closed for traffic from Chitra Cinema to Parel, motorists on the adjacent Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Road, too, witnessed traffic snarls.

“Traffic movement in Dadar (West) is normal,” said Sanjay Kale, senior inspector at Dadar traffic division.

Amitesh Kumar, joint commissioner of police, traffic said, “Except on the morcha route, traffic movement is smooth. Congestion has been reported on the Eastern Expressway (Freeway). Traffic on the Western Express Highway and Eastern Express Highway is smooth.”

Roads in Pydhonie, Byculla, Bhoiwada, Matunga and the area near Azad Maidan are expected to witness traffic snarls and its effects are likely to be felt till late afternoon.
