After interrogating the accused in the murder of perfumer Monika Ghurde, Raj Kumar Singh, 22, the Goa police have added the charge of rape against him on Tuesday evening. The accused confessed that he barged into the house with a knife around 6.30pm on October 5 and left around 3.30am on October 6. Spending around 9 hours inside Ghurde’s home, he raped her multiple times at knifepoint and showed her pornographic films by tying her up to the bed, police said
“Singh entered the building premises from the back of the society and spent at least 40 hours on the terrace waiting for the right time to make his move. He came down to her floor several times to enter inside her house, but when he could not get an opportunity to enter, he went back into hiding, said deputy inspector general (DIG) Vimal Gupta.
Around 6.30pm on October 5, Singh knocked on her door, pretending to be the security supervisor. As she opened the door, he barged inside and pulled out a knife. When she screamed for help, he gagged her and threatened to kill her, said Gupta.
“Singh then tied her to the bed using her clothes. He took Rs4,000 in cash and her mobile phone. He took her ATM card and PIN number forcefully. He showed her three pornographic films from his mobile phone and raped her” added Gupta.
“While staying in the room for several hours, he boiled a few eggs and ate it when he felt hungry. He then scoured the fridge and ate chocolates and ice-cream while she was tied up to the bed. He also shaved his beard. During interrogation, he confessed that he killed her by smothering her,” said an officer.
“Although he has still not confessed whether he made any clips of her to blackmail her, we need to verify this. We will take help of a software expert to check his phone if he would have deleted anything from his mobile phone. We have collected all the evidence, including Singh’s beard samples from her residence” said a police official.
The medical report has not arrived yet but as per the circumstantial evidence and on accused’s statement the rape charge has been added in the case. Singh has revealed that he had no accomplice. Police arrested Singh from Bengaluru on Sunday after they tracked Ghurde’s mobile phone and found it was active.
Police inspector Rajesh Kumar said, “Singh was produced before a local court in Goa and was remanded in police custody for seven days. So far we have recovered Ghurde’s phone and ATM cards from him. After committing the crime, he withdrew Rs1 lakh cash from several ATMs from Goa, Mangalore, Bengaluru.”
