This is not the first time he has slammed his government

BJP MP Nana Patole once again took potshots at his own government and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on the issue of farmers and loan waiver.

The BJP MP said more farmers are committing suicide in the current regime than in the earlier Congress-NCP government. He also called for a blanket loan waiver even while objecting to online applications for it, echoing a demand made by farmer organisations in the state.

He added that he was not going to keep quiet if farmers are at the receiving end. Patole said he is highlighting the lapses in the government and administration and not saying anything against the BJP.  “The CM is my friend and if he is making any mistake, it is my duty to point it out. I want him to rectify those mistakes and work for the betterment of the masses,” Patole said while questioning Fadnavis’ decisions on farmer issues.

This is not the first time he has slammed his government. He was in news recently for taking on prime minister Narendra Modi saying he doesn’t like to be asked questions.  “Farmer suicides are not new in Maharashtra. It is not like they started under Fadnavis’ regime but it has been on rise, which is a fact. I am saying this with anguish and pain. I have seen how the families affected by these suicides have to suffer,” said the Bhandara-Gondia MP.

He added that he would tell PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah about farmers’ condition if he gets an appointment.

The state has announced a Rs34,022-crore loan waiver package for the farmers but have imposed several conditions for eligibility. It has also introduced online application process for getting waiver benefits, which has been limited up to Rs1.5 lakh for each family.  “I am against the conditions imposed for loan waiver as farmers should be given a blanket loan waiver,” Patole said.

On Wednesday, he also met Fadnavis and objected to state relief and rehabilitation minister Chandrakant Patil’s statement over bogus loan applications from farmers. Few days back, Patil had claimed that they have received 10 lakh bogus applications from farmers for loan waiver. “On what grounds can Patil say they received bogus applications from farmers when the verification process of applications has not started. The CM also admitted that Patil made an unnecessary statement,” Patole said.

When asked, the BJP MP said he is not worried about the election ticket as he is people’s person and has been elected to work for them. The party has decided to give a long rope to the MP, who is unlikely to be given ticket from the BJP top brass for 2019 polls. Patole is the only BJP MP openly criticising the government.
