Mumbai family suicide: Couple changed identity to evade creditors, say cops
While the man changed his name from Sunil Uttewar to Indrajit Dutt, the woman changed her name from Jasmine Uttewar to Jasmine Patel
The Mumbai couple, found hanging in their rented home on Sunday, had taken loans from several banks and had changed their names in 2009 to evade creditors, said police.
While the man changed his name from Sunil Uttewar to Indrajit Dutt, the woman changed her name from Jasmine Uttewar to Jasmine Patel.
Ashok Naik, senior inspector, Kamothe police station, said, “We have found bank loan documents in the house. The loan amounts were between Rs3 lakh and Rs7 lakh. They were not in a position to repay the loans, so they must have changed their identity. We are investigating further.
There might be some other reasons too and we are now investigating the matter to find that out,” he said.
The police said the family was not in touch with their relatives in Madhya Pradesh. They are yet to record their statements.
