Mumbai: Interior decorator arrested for harassing female employee

The police said that the victim and the accused were in a relationship and after it turned sour, the accused started harassing the victim.

The VP Road police have arrested a 38-year-old interior decorator for harassing his employee by calling her more than 100 times. The police said that the victim and the accused were in a relationship and after it turned sour, the accused started harassing the victim. 

According to the police , the 34-year-old victim got divorced in 2013. She started working with the accused from 2016 as an interior designer. The two got into a relationship later. 

An officer from VP Road police station said, “The two were in a relationship since 2016. Later, the victim sorted out things with her former husband, and broke things off with the accused. This angered him and he started to harass her.” 

The accused would call and message her constantly from his mobile number asking her to marry him, which she kept refusing. On February 1, things turned worse after the accused broke into her Girgaum residence and threatened her. 

“When he threatened her, the woman, scared, called her ex-husband over. The two got into a fight and assaulted each other, and everyone landed in the police station,” added an officer from VP road police station. 

The police sorted the matter between the two parties.However, the woman later started getting calls from an international number. 

“The accused probably downloaded an application to disguise his number, and has been constantly harassing her. The victim would get more than 100 calls a day and when she answered, the caller would threaten her. The victim claims that the accused has been changing his voice and threatening her,” added an officer. 

The accused has not confessed to the crime.The police have recovered his mobile phone and have sent it to a laboratory for further probe.

The man has been booked under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 (D) (stalking), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
