A college identity card left behind at the scene of the crime helped the Bandra government railway police (GRP) nab a 26-year-old man for allegedly molesting a 21-year-old woman on Friday.

The woman is an intern at a private firm in Bandra (East). She told police she alighted from a fast train on platform 4 and was walking on the foot over bridge around 8.45 pm when a man grabbed her from behind.

“I turned around in shock, and saw him staring at me. I slapped him hard, following which he fled,” reads the FIR filed under section 354 A (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code.

While fleeing, the man dropped his bag, which the woman picked up. She gave it to the police.

“We found his college ID in his bag and used it to track him down,” an official from the Bandra GRP.

The accused, Mohammad Nadeem Shaikh, 26, is a resident of Anandnagar in Mahim. Police laid a trap outside his house and arrested him around 9 pm on Saturday.
