Mumbai marathoner dies of cardiac arrest during practice session

GP Waghmare, 63, a retired bank employee from CBD Belapur and a marathoner, suffered a cardiac arrest when he went out for practice on Wednesday morning.
Waghmare reached Parsik hills around 7.30am. As he started to run, he felt uneasy and stopped midway.
“Other runners asked him if he was fine. He said he was alright, but collapsed in some time,” said a family friend. “He was rushed to a private hospital, but was brought dead on arrival.”
His body was handed over to his family after postmortem.
Doctors in the hospital confirmed he died of cardiac arrest.
His family members said Waghmare had an active lifestyle. He used to play football, badminton, kabaddi when he was young. He would also do yoga at home.
He had also registered for the Mumbai Marathon.
