After demanding that he gets a bungalow at Malabar Hill, mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar is now eyeing the civic chief’s house at Carmichael Road.

Talking to HT on Tuesday, he said that he would be happy to shift either to a bungalow in Malabar Hill or the civic chief’s bungalow, but not at Byculla.

“I want the civic administration to select an apt location. Shifting to Byculla zoo will not be ideal because the mayor keeps hosting events, which cannot be done in a silence zone. I will be happy with the civic chief’s bungalow or one at Malabar Hill,” he said.

On Monday, Mahadeshwar wrote to civic chief Ajoy Mehta, asking for a Malabar Hill bungalow, next to a water reservoir. The bungalows that he suggested as his choices are occupied by additional commissioners of the civic body. Allotting them to the Mayor is not going to be easy as one of the bungalows has been allotted Praveen Darade, an IAS officer, said civic officials.

“If the Mayor is allotted the Malabar Hill space, then Darade’s bungalow will be used for residential purposes and the other bungalow, where additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee lives now, for official work, as it has a lawn where events can be hosted,” said officials from the mayor’s office.

The mayor’s bungalow at Shivaji Park will be converted into a memorial of Shiv Sena founder late Bal Thackeray. So, the civic administration is renovating a colonial bungalow on the Byculla zoo premises. Mahadeshwar is not happy with the idea. In his letter, Mahadeshwar has said that the Byculla bungalow is smaller.

has refused to move a bungalow being readied for him in the premises of Byculla Zoo and instead wants one at Malabar Hill in south Mumbai.

On Monday, Mahadeshwar wrote a letter to civic chief Ajoy Mehta demanding to shift his official residence to plush bungalows of additional municipal commissioners at Malabar Hill next to a water reservoir. Mahadeshwar has suggested that both the bungalows should be allotted to him which are currently occupied by two additional commissioners of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

After demanding Malabar Hill’s bungalows, Mahadeshwar is also eyeing civic chief Ajoy Mehta’s bungalow.

Mahadeshwar, said, “I want the civic administration to select appropriate location for city’s Mayor as shifting to Byculla zoo will not be an ideal move. Mayor keeps on hosting several events in his premises which cannot be done in a silence zone, so I will be happy to move either to civic chief’s bungalow or to Malabar Hill, whatever the administration feels appropriate.”

The famous mayor’s bungalow at Shivaji Park will be converted into a memorial of Shiv Sena founder late Bal Thackeray. As such, Mayor Mahadeshwar will be shifting to other official residence. The civic administration is in the process of renovating a colonial bungalow in the premises of the zoo but Mahadeshwar is not amused with the idea. In his letter to Mehta, Mahadeshwar has also pointed out that the Byculla bungalow is smaller and thus it will be a cause of inconvenience apart from this area falling under silence zone.

However, Mayor’s move to these plush areas is not going to be easy, as all these bungalows are occupied by IAS officials. Currently, there are two bungalows next to Malabar Hill water reservoir and near Kamala Nehru Park, which mayor had mentioned in his letter that fall under Hydraulic Engineering department and two existing additional municipal commissioners, (Projects) Sanjay Mukherjee and (City) Pallavi Darade reside there.
