Mumbai police rescue 75-year-old woman who fell into Mithi river
Mumbai city news: A group of spectators were waiting near the river, but no one stepped forward to help, said an official.
The Mumbai police on Tuesday rescued a 75-year-old woman, who was drowning in Mithi River in Borivli (West).
The Mumbai police control room received a call about the woman around 8.15am.
Soon, police inspector Kandalgavkar and his team, including two sub-inspectors and three constables, rushed to the spot.
A group of spectators were waiting near the river, but no one stepped forward to help, said an official.
“The woman fell off a wall adjoining the river. She was struggling when the team reached. Our team jumped in and pulled her out,” said inspector Kandalgavkar.
The woman, Mahananda Butale, is a ragpicker and lives in IC Colony. Police said she was sent to Karuna Hospital for a check-up. Her condition is stable, said officials.
