The Juhu police recently arrested a sales assistant working for a private firm dealing in expensive cars in Juhu, Vile Parle west, for allegedly cheating the firm of Rs6.36 lakh. The Juhu police are in the process of recovering the amount from the accused.

According to the Juhu police, the 31-year-old accused is a graduate and had been working as a sales assistant for past three months in a car showroom owned by the firm. The sales assistant had struck a deal with customer for selling him a new Pajero car from the showroom.

The man gave his old SUV 500 car to the sales assistant as part of an offer, and was to get the new car in return after deducting an appropriate amount. The sales assistant took the SUV from the man and instead of handing it to the showroom, he sold it to a broker for Rs5.5 lakh.

The assistant neither took their permission to sell the SUV to the broker, nor did he give them Rs 5.5 lakh that came out of the deal. He became untraceable for eight days. A FIR was then registered earlier this month with the Juhu police, and the accused was arrested. He has been remanded to police custody till 24 November.
