A 21-year-old who had stepped out to visit a nearby medical store was assaulted and her mobile phone was robbed by two men on bikes at Milind Nagar in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, on Monday night.
The woman approached the police, after which a case was registered. The complainant, Pooja Dhadke, had gone to a medical store and was returning to her residence when the incident occurred. The rider and the pillion were wearing helmets to conceal their faces, police said.
When Dhadke reached near Shankar temple at Milind nagar at around 10pm, the rider slowed down from behind. The pillion hit her with some object and snatched her mobile phone. Dhadke was caught unawares as the phone, which was in her hand, was taken.
The duo sped away from the spot. Dhadke sustained injuries on her right hand. “The incident occurred at a secluded place and we suspect that the accused may be locals who knew the lanes,” said a police officer from Ghatkopar police station. Dhadke has given descriptions of the clothes the accused were wearing. She, however, was unable to see the registration number of the bike. The police will check close circuit television cameras (CCTV) of the area to find clues.
The police are also questioning locals to see if there are any witnesses. The Ghatkopar police have registered a case of assault and robbery against two unidentified persons.
