A 20-year-old youth fell from the terrace of a seven-storey building in Vakola area of Santa Cruz (East) on Sunday night while he was engrossed in his mobile phone. The police said it’s unclear if he was speaking to someone on his phone or playing a game on it.
According to Vakola police, the deceased, Abhishek Bhosle, was a resident of Mangal Murthy Co-operative Housing Society near Vakola Pipleline and was a diploma student. Bhosle, as per the statement of his family members, had been feeling dizzy for the last few days. His family members said around 10 pm, he told his mother that he needed fresh air and so took the key to the terrace door. He also took his mobile phone with him. Some youngsters saw him fall and alerted his family. They rushed him to the nearby VN Desai hospital but he was declared dead.
“We suspect he was speaking on the phone while sitting on the boundary wall of the terrace which is small. He may have lost his balance, tumbled and fallen off. Prima facie it does not look like a suicide. But our probe is on,” said senior police inspector, Mahadev Wavale of Vakola police station.
The officer added that he was neither in an inebriated condition, nor was he taking pictures. A case of accidental death has been registered and his mobile is being checked to get leads in the case. They will ask for its call records to check what he was doing with it at the time of the incident.
Police officials said the mobile’s display got damaged after the fall.
