Not just taxis, Mumbaiites can now call for an ambulance using a mobile phone application – Dial4242
The procedure of calling for an ambulance is similar to booking Ola or Uber cabs.
You need to provide your pick-up and drop location and select the type of ambulance. “We offer basic, ICU and pediatric ambulances to transport patients out of station and to carry dead bodies,”said Jeetendra Lalwani, one of the founder of Health Wheels Private Limited, the company that launched the app last May.
Once booked, people get details of the driver and ambulance. They can also track the movement of ambulance. “The GPS in the driver’s app help them reach in the shortest time possible,” said Lalwani.
Claiming it is a “one-of-its-kind service in Mumbai”, Lalwani said the app also shows the expected time of arrival and estimated fare.
Presently, the app is only available on Android platform and has got more than 1,300 downloads.
The company plans to launch an IOS version soon.
Price has been fixed for every type of ambulance. “We have a tie-up with around 200 ambulances across Mumbai. We get around five-six bookings daily,” said Lalwani.
On completion of journey, people can pay by cash, card or mobile wallet. People can also rate drivers, depending on cleanliness and behaviour.
