A 30-year-old man riding pillion on a Bajaj avenger driven by his relative was killed after a heavy vehicle hit the two-wheeler near Sion bridge on Tuesday afternoon, making them fall.
According to the Shahu Nagar police, the accident took place around 1pm near Sion bridge on its eastbound stretch on the sixty feet road. The bike as well as the truck were moving in the same direction.
Shamshed Ansari, 30, who was riding pillion on the bike, died of multiple injuries. His relative, Mukhtar Ahmed, who was riding the bike escaped with minor injuries.
Ansari was a tailor and a local resident of Sion. He hails from Bihar. The truck driver Narendra Saini, 43, stopped the vehicle. He was arrested by the Shahu Nagar police.
Ansari was rushed to Sion hospital by passers-by, where he died soon after treatment began. A first information report (FIR) has been registered under section 279 and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code for causing death due to rash and negligent driving.
“He was produced before a magistrate’s court and remanded to judicial custody,” said senior police inspector DB Thorat of Shahu nagar police station. Police have ruled out drink driving.
