Police arrest wife, her lover for murder of Mumbai man in May

The Kherwadi police on Tuesday traced and arrested a 30-year-old man wanted in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old man whose body was found in Bandra East on May 28.
A few days earlier, the police arrested the wife of the victim, Sachin Chari, for conspiring with the arrested accused, Chetan Waghela, purportedly her paramour.
According to the Kherwadi police, the murder took place on the terrace of building no. 3 in Government colony in Bandra East on May 28. Chari, a driver and Waghela, a housekeeper, were friends.
According to the police, Chetan and Sachin’s wife Sonali, 35, a househelp had an affair. Sachin and Sonali have a 12-year-old daughter.
Chetan was married and his wife and four children live in Khar. He used to live in the neighbourhood of the victim, but had moved to Khar a year ago, police said.
According to the police, Sachin was unaware Sonali was having an affair, but the couple regularly fought over domestic issues after which Sonali conspired with Chetan to murder him.
On May 28, Chetan took Sachin to the terrace to have drinks, police said. After getting him drunk, Chetan slit his throat with a knife. He threw away his phone and fled to Nashik, said police.
Senior police inspector, Rajendra Patil, of Kherwadi police station said, “He was traced and brought back by a team led by assistant inspector Sohan Kadam.”
The accused will be produced before a magistrate court on Wednesday. The police had earlier arrested Sonali, who is in police custody.
