The police probing into Islamic preacher Zakir Naik’s activities are still in the process of finding concrete evidence against him.

Investigators said they will take help of the forensic experts to ascertain if any objectionable material, found during the probe, has been doctored.

While the police have scanned hundreds of his speeches, the quantum of his sermons collected for scanning is humongous.

Hence, the officers have formed teams of over 20 personnel to hear the CDs and read through selective printed material.

“The teams have come across some hate speeches but more sensitive material is being looked into to have a strong set of evidence against him. The teams are also scanning through the details of the previous cases and the statements that he had given then as the material is on police record,” said a senior police officer.

The police said there are three cases in Maharashtra against Naik in connection with a speech that he had given in 2013. While one case was registered in Kurla, two others were registered in Sawantwadi and Vengurla. There are several other cases against Naik in other states registered over the period of time, officials said.

Officials added that a writ petition filed by Naik in the apex court, asking for one agency to be appointed for investigating all the cases spread in different states, is also pending.

Naik was, however, asked to report to the Mumbai police while leaving the country and on arrival, after the recent case was registered.

The special branch of the Mumbai police is also compiling a list of former employees of Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) and the Harmony Media Pvt Ltd that edits shows meant to be aired on his channel Peace TV. Officials are counting on the former employees for a detailed version on the activities of Harmony Media.
