Polish couple robbed by two near Haji Ali

According to the police, the couple said the accused brandished sharp objects at them while passers-by did not intervene.

A Polish couple was allegedly robbed of their valuables and cash by two people near Haji Ali on Wednesday. According to the police, the couple said the accused brandished sharp objects at them while passers-by did not intervene. A case has been registered with the Tardeo police who are investigating the matter while the couple went back to Poland after the complaint was filed.

The complainants were identified as Niepsuj Gorski Wojciech Lukasz,28, who is into the real estate business in Nowy Sacz, Poland, and his wife Adrianna, 27. They had landed in Mumbai on November 16 and were staying at the InterContinental hotel in South Mumbai.

An officer from Tardeo police station said, “On Saturday, the couple left their hotel at 11am and from Churchgate station they got on a train to Mahalaxmi. They had visited Haji Ali and on their way to Siddhivinayak Temple, the two accosted them and robbed them.”

The couple said they had crossed a road through the subway and after they were back on the road, two people stopped them. The couple said they were robbed of their GoPro camera, Gucci and Junghans watches along with gold jewellery worn by Adriana. They had also been robbed of Rs5,000 in new banknotes, police said.

The complainant, Lukasz, in his statement to the police said that as he was new to the city, he was not sure about the exact location of the incident. After the incident, the couple went back to their hotel and after talking to the staff, went to Marine Drive police station to file a complaint. As Haji Ali fell under the jurisdiction of Tardeo police station, a case was registered there.

“Lukasz said he got the new Indian currency with great difficulty and the two accused fled with that as well. The couple said both the accused seemed to be in their early thirties. The two went back to Poland after lodging a complaint,” said an officer.

Robbed of camera, watches, gold and cash

A Polish couple was robbed of their GoPro camera, Gucci and Junghans watches and gold jewellery along with Rs 5,000 in new currency by two people near Haji Ali on Wednesday.

Lukasz told the police that the two accused brandished sharp objects at them. He said passers-by were reluctant to help the couple.

The two robbers are yet to be arrested.

A case has been registered under sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

March 2016 A 21-year-old Swedish national , Grim Ralf Bergman, was robbed of his bag when he was travelling in a long-distance train from Karnataka to Mumbai. Bergman alleged that the bag, which comprised cash and valuables worth Rs26,000, was robbed when he was sleeping.

Later, they went to Siddhivinayak Temple, Haji Ali. On his way back to the hotel, his bag was allegedly stolen by the guide, which he realised only after reaching his room.
