In yet another stark reminder of how the tall claims made by the Public Works Department (PWD) about fixing potholes across Mumbai have fallen flat, motorists using the Western Express Highway (WEH) endured a nightmarish journey on Thursday morning.
Some of the motorists even complained about taking hours to cover just a few kilometres.
Speaking to HT, several motorists complained it took them over 40 minutes to cover the stretch between Goregaon Hub mall and Jaycoach flyover in Jogeshwari.
According to most, the worst-affected stretch was between Samta Nagar, Kandivli, and domestic airport, Vile Parle.
“It took me two hours to cover just seven kilometres on the JVLR. There is excessive traffic today,” said a motorist.
Traffic police personnel confirmed that the potholes reduced the vehicular movement to a crawl on the WEH. They also said that no accidents were reported despite heavy traffic on the highway.
Numerous traffic police personnel were deployed between Kandivli and Vile Parle to manage the stretch, as it was the worst-affected.
As the day progressed, motorists once agin complained slow moving traffic, this time on the northbound stretch of the highway, between Santacruz and Jogeshwari during evening peak hours. The worst-affected stretch was between Jogeshwari and Malad.
Those who took the SV Road and the Link Road to escape the chaos on the highway experienced similar problems on the two arterial roads.
