The assault on an infant at a Kharghar Day Care has awaken the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), which issued a public notice asking all creche owners in the city to themselves registered before December 13 or face action. The corporation had earlier decided to formulate a policy regarding day creches, for which it had decided to undertake a survey.
A civic officer, requesting anonymity, said, “We have issued notices to all creches and day care centres in the city to get themselves registered in the next eight days, which is by December 13. They will have to give address, name of the owner, manager and co-ordinator of the centre and the facilities provided to the children, among other details. We have uploaded a form on our website from where the centres can download it.”
At present, creches across the city do not fall under the ambit of any regulating body. Moreover, the TMC lacks data on the number of creches or day care centres operating in the city.
